Overview

This course is aimed at practitioners within the Early Years workforce. It is a work-based qualification, so you must be employed in an early years setting at Level 3 to apply. Attendance at college is required and it is anticipated this will be twice per month.

This course is for anyone looking to develop leadership and specialist skills for use in their current role, or in preparation to take on a specialist role such as a Special Educational Needs Coordinator or a Physical Activity and Nutrition Coordinator. It is ideal for those who want to progress to further learning to take on a position of leadership within the sector. 

What Will I Study?

You will complete five mandatory units:

  • enabling students to learn
  • promoting health and well-being through physical activity and nutrition co-ordination (PANCo) in early years
  • working with others to support children with additional needs, including special educational needs and disability
  • working with families and other professionals in early years settings
  • implementing change in an early years setting incorporating a small scale research project.

You will acquire and use skills of leadership, mentoring, coaching and reflection as you complete the qualification through work-based learning opportunities. 

Entry Requirements

You should have a Level 3 Early Years qualification, plus experience in a senior role.

Progression

You could apply for the Foundation Degree in Early Years leading to a BA (Hons) Top-up (both offered at the college). You could also progress to job roles such as Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENCo) or Physical Activity and Nutrition Coordinator (PANCo).
