Our annual Counselling Research Conference took place on Saturday 4th July, bringing together students and staff for a day of learning, discussion and celebration.

Our BA Counselling students took centre stage to present the findings from their dissertation research, and we were incredibly proud of how professionally they presented themselves throughout the day. Delivering research to an audience can be daunting, but they presented with confidence, enthusiasm and genuine passion for their chosen subjects. Their presentations reflected not only the quality of their academic work but also the personal commitment they have to supporting others through counselling.

This year’s presentations explored a wide range of fascinating topics, including an exploration of how useful grief models are to the bereaved, the psychological effects of boarding school, the role of music in counselling and therapy and a relational inquiry into stigma, addiction and therapeutic preparedness.

The conference also featured a fascinating keynote address from Dr Emma Haynes, which focused on the importance of embedding perinatal theory into counselling training.

Head of Counselling, Nicola Rowthorn, said, “the research conference is always one of the highlights of our academic year because it gives us the chance to celebrate everything our graduating students have achieved. The standard of research this year was exceptional. It was wonderful to see them present their work with such confidence and enthusiasm. I would also like to extend our sincere thanks to Dr Haynes, for delivering such an insightful keynote address.”

As well as celebrating the achievements of our graduating students, the event highlighted the exciting opportunities available for those looking to continue their studies. Following the presentations, tutors were on hand to talk to students about our new MA in Integrative Psychotherapy and Diploma in Clinical Supervision. These exciting new courses offer amazing progression routes to those wishing to further develop their professional practice and academic knowledge.
