Overview

A one-day workshop led by award-winning stylist Natalie Joseph. This course introduces the essential skills required to work confidently with afro and textured hair. Building on your existing expertise, you will explore the underpinning theory, including hair structure, care, and product selection, and begin to apply this knowledge in a practical context. By the end of the workshop, you will have a stronger foundation for adapting your techniques and expanding your professional practice.

What Will I Study?

In this course you will cover:

  • Consultation - how to carry out effective client consultations, including identifying hair needs, expectations, and suitability of styles
  • Hair textures 1A–4C - understanding different hair types, their characteristics, and how this impacts approach and technique
  • Product knowledge - selecting and using appropriate products for cleansing, moisturising, styling, and maintenance
  • Cleansing, co-washing & conditioning - best practice for maintaining hair health and moisture balance
  • Drying & cutting techniques - safe and effective methods tailored to different textures and curl patterns
  • Styling & finishing - techniques to create polished, long-lasting results suitable for a range of looks
  • Plaiting, twisting & braiding - core styling skills for protective and creative styling across textured hair types

Entry Requirements

This course is for Level 3 qualified stylists.

Materials

All materials will be provided however attendees must provide their own model for a practical session commencing at 1pm.

Progression

Level 3 qualified hair stylists may consider progressing to our Level 4 Diploma in Salon Management, or diversify their skills with Beauty or Complementary Therapies courses.
