Overview

This one-day Saturday workshop is designed for complete beginners who want to learn and apply basic jewellery-making skills in a fun, hands-on environment. It is ideal for those looking for a taster of silversmithing and jewellery, before deciding whether or not to commit to a longer course.

It also provides students currently enrolled in our beginners course an opportunity to practice and experiment with techniques they've learned so far. More experienced students are also welcome to join if they'd like to brush up or refresh on the basic skills involved in making silver jewellery.

What Will I Study?

Participants will explore a range of essential techniques, including:

  • Cutting
  • Drilling
  • Filing
  • Annealing
  • Texturing
  • Soldering
  • Polishing
  • Safe use of jewellery-making tools

You will learn creative approaches to shaping and manipulating wire, creating unique, personalised pieces to take home—such as infinity rings, spiral designs, or basic filigree patterns. The tutor will provide examples and guidance on the day.

Wire work techniques can also be applied to bracelets, bangles, and necklaces, incorporating beads, cords, and chains.

Additionally, students will learn to cut decorative shapes from metal and create bails and hooks, which can be fashioned into pendants or earrings.

Entry Requirements

No previous experience needed. Ideally for students on the current beginners course or for people wanting to get a taste of Silversmithing and jewellery making.
