Overview

This Level 2 course is for those who wish to explore an interest in counselling and improve, extend and enhance their listening skills. It is ideal for those who are interested in theory and are considering progressing on to becoming a qualified counsellor.

On this course, you will participate in small group and whole class discussions, produce a presentation, regularly work in a triad and have the opportunity to practice the skills you have learned. You will also learn about yourself and your relationships. This course involves a high level of work on personal growth and development and is worth 16 credits.

What Will I Study?

In this course there are four modules:

  • counselling skills and personal development;
  • using counselling skills;
  • introduction to counselling theories;
  • diversity and ethics in the use of counselling skills

Students will develop knowledge of the three main counselling theoretical approaches and gain an understanding of the contexts and ethics relevant in the use of counselling skills. They will also reflect on their own personal and future development and identify potential sources of support.

In addition to weekly classes, students are required to attend college on the following Sundays from 9.30-4.30pm: 02/03/25, 11/05/25 and 15/06/25.

Aside from contact time in college you will need to set aside approximately four hours a week in order to maintain a personal reflective learning journal, read further around the various topics, prepare for assignments and prepare for presentations.
