Overview

This one-day CPD course delves into the profound connection between nature and therapeutic practices, highlighting how natural environments can significantly influence the therapeutic process. Participants will explore how nature impacts the nervous system, shapes client experiences, and enhances or challenges the therapeutic relationship. The course will also provide practical guidance on integrating elements of nature into therapy, whether by conducting sessions outdoors or bringing nature into the therapy room in subtle yet impactful ways.

This course is led by Counsellor Steph Miller MTA MBACP. It is open to qualified counsellors, those who are considering Counselling training, as well as to anyone with an interest in learning more about the impact of nature on our mental health. It may be of particular interest to those who have completed our CPD course, ‘Your Brain in Nature’.

What Will I Study?

Participants will explore the impact of nature on the nervous system and its therapeutic potential, evaluating the pros and cons of nature's influence on clients in therapy. You will consider both the therapeutic benefits such as improved mood and mindfulness, as well as potential challenges like environmental triggers and client discomfort. You will explore how nature affects the therapeutic relationship, considering both benefits and challenges, such as how nature can enhance the bond between therapist and client, fostering openness and trust, while also addressing the potential challenges that come with working in non-traditional environments.

Participants will also be shown practical approaches to integrating nature into therapy, both outdoors and within the therapy room.
