Overview

This short evening course is designed to teach the fundamentals of curtain making over a six-week period. Participants will learn essential sewing techniques, fabric selection, and construction methods to create custom curtains for the home. 

What Will I Study?

Through hands-on practice and expert guidance, participants will gain the confidence and skills to embark on their own curtain making projects. 

You will cover: 

  • Introduction to different types of curtains and their functions
  • Basics of fabric selection
  • Measuring and calculating fabric requirements and cutting fabric to size
  • Techniques for accurate measurements and seam allowances
  • Sewing techniques, such as straight stitch, herringbone and seam finishes
  • Sewing curtain panels, including hems and joining fabric widths
  • Adding details such as lining and pleats

Entry Requirements

This course if for anyone with an interest in sewing. It would be an advantage to have used a sewing machine before, but is not compulsory.

Materials

You will need to supply your own materials so that you can work with fabrics in a colour and style of your choosing. Your tutor will advise regarding materials in your introductory letter before the course and during the first session. Basic materials and sewing machines are provided.

Progression

Completion of this course will give you the knowledge and skills to confidently create custom curtains for your home. Further study options include one of our other fabric and textile courses, such as Textile Homeware & Soft Furnishings, Patchwork Quilting or Dressmaking.
