A New Course for Future Children's Authors and Illustrators
Aspiring children's book illustrators, writers and creatives are invited to take their first steps into the exciting world of picture-book creation with our brand-new course: Introduction to Making Picture Books.
Designed for anyone interested in creating stories for children, this practical and inspiring course explores the process of developing a picture book from initial ideas through to visual development and presentation. While storytelling and writing form an important part of the creative process, the course places a strong emphasis on illustration, visual narrative and bringing stories to life through images.
Throughout the course, students will develop key skills in character creation, storyboarding and visual storytelling, while gaining valuable insight into how picture books are developed and published. Participants will explore a wide range of picture books and illustration styles, learning about common book formats and the practical stages involved in creating a successful picture book.
Topics covered include character design, backgrounds and settings, narrative structure, visual pacing and the relationship between text and image. Students will also receive guidance on building a professional portfolio and approaching the publishing industry with confidence.
The course is taught by Zosienka, an illustrator, surface designer and picture-book maker based in Winchester. With books published in multiple languages and collaborations with publishers around the world, Zosienka brings extensive industry experience to the classroom. Working across gouache, watercolour, acrylic, inks, pencils and digital media, she offers students a unique opportunity to learn from an established professional.
