Overview

This online qualification is suitable for learners already working as an Early Years practitioner/manager in a Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENCO) or Special Educational Needs and Disability (SEND) related role who wish to cement their understanding and lead good practice in their setting. Learners will be prepared for leadership and management in specific aspects of the SENCO role including:

  • enabling best outcomes for children and their families
  • enriching professional development
  • liaison with parents/carers, colleagues, other professionals
  • undertaking and applying research for improved outcomes.

Attendance is 2 hours per week online (Wednesdays), plus 3 Saturdays in person in Winchester. Please enquire for dates.

What Will I Study?

The units are structured around the following three themes:

  • Lead Effective Practice in the Role of the SENCO within Early Years Settings
  • Evaluate SEND Provision for Effective Practice within an Early Years Setting
  • Lead Change to Inform SEND Provision in an Early Years Setting.

Entry Requirements

Applicants should be aged 19 or over. If not already achieved, students are required to gain their Maths and English GCSE grade C/4 and above (or equivalent) by the end of the qualification to enable them to be a licensed practitioner. Applicants should be working as an Early Years practitioner in a lead SENCO or SEND related role.

Progression

This course can lead to a BA (Hons) Degree in Special Educational Needs &
Disability (SEND), which is offered as a progression option at Peter Symonds College.
