Overview

This course is for students who have already studied the language for a few years (Italian Year 4 or equivalent) and have consolidated their pre-intermediate knowledge of Italian. You should be able to talk about a range of topics, using the present and past tenses, with some knowledge of the future and conditional tenses.

Homework is given on a weekly basis. To benefit most from the course, you will be encouraged to read the materials used during lessons and refer to the course book. The tutor encourages learning in a lively, supportive way and uses audio and video, as well as reference to books, films, arts and current affairs to enrich the students’ cultural understanding of Italy.

What Will I Study?

You will continue to expand your vocabulary and grammar using all four language skills (speaking, listening, reading and writing) on practical topics to enable you to communicate about your personal experiences, tastes and opinions.

You will talk in class, mainly in Italian, and understand longer texts and recordings. Students will learn how to express their opinion in Italian on different topics connected to their life and will talk about some important cultural events and/or societal topics.

You will:

  • revise the use of the present, past, imperative, future and conditional tenses
  • learn how to express your opinion using the congiuntivo (subjunctive)
  • learn colloquial and idiomatic expressions to improve your spoken Italian
  • use a designated course book to support grammar work and enrich learning about a wide range of topics
