Overview

This course is for adults who have done at least three years of Italian and who have a good knowledge of the basics of the language. You should be able to cope with typical tourist conversations and conversational topics such as hobbies, memories and future plans. To join at this level, you should also have a knowledge of the Presente, Passato Prossimo and Futuro tenses.

Homework is given on a weekly basis. To benefit most from the course, you will be encouraged to read the materials used during lessons and refer to the course book.

What Will I Study?

You will:

  • expand your vocabulary and learn more advanced grammatical  structures on practical topics to enable you to communicate more fluently. 
  • revise the Futuro and learn the Condizionale tenses, adding Congiuntivo Presente to express opinions. 
  • improve your ability to talk about yourself and your family, hobbies, the weather, describing people etc.

learn to deal with travel situations, such as booking accommodations and restaurants and talk about past experiences, memories and future plans.

Entry Requirements

You need to have a solid knowledge of the basics of the Italian language. 

You should be able to:

  • understand longer texts in Italian
  • introduce yourself and talk about your day and your hobbies
  • understand simple sentences/questions i.e. come ti chiami? come va? che tempo fa? che ore sono?
  • use Presente, Passato Prossimo and the some Futuro tenses in writing and verbally

Materials

Please bring a pen, paper and folder. Text books will be discussed at the first session. 

Progression

We offer a Semester 2 course in the summer term. It begins immediately after Semester 1 and is an integral part of the course, the exact length of which will be decided in the spring term. After completing this course students can progress to the next level of the language.
