Overview

This course is for adults who can cope with typical Spanish tourist conversations and have studied at least 3 years of the language or equivalent. It is for those looking to expand their knowledge and be more fluent when speaking, so that they are able to have conversations on a wider range of topics in Spanish.

You will be able to speak about a certain topic related to the Spanish or Latin American culture with an independent preparation beforehand.

Homework is given on a weekly basis. To benefit most from the course, you will be encouraged to read the materials used during lessons and refer to the course book.

What Will I Study?

You will expand your vocabulary and grammar using all four language skills (speaking, listening, reading and writing) on practical topics to enable you to communicate. 

  • We will be revising the use of Pronouns, the Present, Future and Past tenses.
  • We will start studying the Present Subjunctive and the Imperative
  • We will practice using all past tenses in the same text/conversation as necessary in real life.
  • You will increase your vocabulary and grammar and improve your ability to talk about yourself and your jobs, hobbies, describe people and places and deal with situations such as problems in the airport, at the train station or in a hotel, at the doctors, etc. in all tenses. 

Entry Requirements

To join at this level, you should:

  • Have a good knowledge of the present tense, and a basic knowledge of the past and future.
  • You will need to feel confident speaking about yourself, your family, jobs, hobbies or places.
  • Be ready to expand your Spanish language skills.

Materials

Please bring pen, paper and a folder. Textbook and the novel that we will read will be discussed at the first session. 

Progression

We offer a Semester 2 course in the summer term. It begins immediately after Semester 1 and is an integral part of the course, the exact length of which will be decided in the spring term. After completing this course students can progress to the next level of the language.
