This Ceramics course is for complete beginners wishing to learn how to work with clay. Students will learn the practical skills to enable them to develop individual clay work.
Learners on this course can choose what they would like to make – everyone can pick a different object depending on their individual preference. The tutor will demonstrate different ways of constructing objects out of clay and will explain how to glaze and fire them.
Please note that there is no class on 2nd October or during half term (week commencing 28th October).
What Will I Study?
Topics covered in this course include:
Construction using four techniques
Hand building methods
Throwing on the wheel
Working with moulds
Slab building or slip casting
The theory behind how to pack and fire an electric kiln appropriately and safely
Glazing and basic glaze chemistry
Constructing a glaze application
Entry Requirements
You do not need any previous knowledge or entry qualifications to enrol on this course.
Materials
Please bring a notebook, a sketchbook and a pen/pencil to your classes. All other materials costs are included within the course fee and are paid for at the time of enrolment.
Progression
Upon completion, students could set up their own ceramics studio or are able to progress to our popular improvers course if they wish.
