Overview

This course is for adults who have done two years of the German language before, who have a good basic knowledge of German and who can go beyond basic tourist conversations and cope with a wide range of topics and contemporary issues.

To join at this level, you should have knowledge of the present tense, future tense and a basic knowledge of the past tense.

What Will I Study?

You will enhance your learning and comprehension using the four language skills: speaking, listening, reading and writing. You will revise and solidify your knowledge of present, future and past tenses to enable you to communicate with confidence.

Possible topics include:

  • Jobs and family - the perfect and imperfect tense
  • Furniture - prepositions with the dative and accusative
  • Tourism - expressing preferences, describing nature and landscapes
  • Shopping – polite and formal phrases and expressions
  • A visit to a town or city – planning and agreeing or disagreeing
  • A favourite event – making suggestions and responding to them

Entry Requirements

You need to have an advanced basic knowledge of German having learned the language for two years or equivalent. You should be able to share personal details, talk about hobbies, and express likes and dislikes. You should also have knowledge of the present tense, future tense and a basic knowledge of the past tense.

Text book will be discussed at the first session. Please bring pen, paper and a folder

Progression

We offer a Semester 2 that begins immediately after Semester 1 and is an integral part of the course, the exact length of which will be decided in the spring term. You would then be able to progress to the next level.
