The Level 3 Diploma in Theatre and Media Hair & Make-Up is a Technical Level qualification that provides you with the knowledge, understanding and skills to work as a make-up artist within a variety of settings. The aim of the course is to make you competent and confident in the skills needed within the theatre and media sector. This qualification allows students to embark on a career as a make-up artist in a variety of settings, such as beauty salons, photographic studios, theatres and film studios, hospitals and care homes, cruise liners, health spas and the National Health Service. Students will also be able work as an independent, self-employed or mobile make-up artist.
You will have the opportunity to undertake a wide range of optional units to enhance your practical skills in both hair and make-up application and beauty techniques. The course involves studying anatomy and physiology to support practical treatments and to ensure that students fully understand relevant health and safety requirements. Students will also study client care and communication skills and will learn how to work effectively within a variety of settings.
Please note that students studying A levels at our Sixth Form campus can study this course alongside their A levels.
What Will I Study?
Students will study the following units:
Apply Make-Up
Apply Airbrush Make-Up to the Face
Camouflage Make-Up
Media Make-Up
Fashion and Photographic Make-Up
Instruct on Make-Up Application
Create an Image based on a theme within the Hair and Beauty Sector
Apply prosthetic pieces and bald caps
Entry Requirements
It is desirable to have related qualifications at Level 2 in Beauty or Hairdressing. Applicants should also have strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work as part of a team.
Materials
You will need a uniform and a student text book – order forms for both are available at interview with a negotiated college discount from our suppliers. Students will also need to purchase a specialist make-up kit, which can be discussed at interview. Further books will be discussed at the first lesson.
Progression
On successful completion, students may consider pursuing a career in beauty salons, photographic studios, theatres and film studios, hospitals and care homes, cruise liners and health spas. Alternatively, you may choose to complement your skills and knowledge base by undertaking higher level qualifications in related areas such as the Level 4 Diploma in Salon Management.
