Overview

The Level 3 Award in Education and Training (formerly PTLLS), is an introductory qualification that will confer a threshold license to teach. There are no teaching hours required for this course. It is ideal for anyone who would like an introduction to teaching in post-compulsory education and training.

Students will study the theory and practice of learning, taking part in group work and discussions, in addition to carrying out presentations and micro-teaching. There will be at least 1-2 hours additional study required each week outside of class or assignments, research, and reading.

What Will I Study?

You will study the following units:

  • Understand the roles, responsibilities and relationships in education and training
  • Understand and use inclusive teaching and learning approaches in education and training
  • Understand assessment in education and training 
  • Adopt an integrated approach to the theory and practice of learning
  • Develop communication and interpersonal skills
  • Reflect on own previous/current levels of experience, practice and skills, and areas for development

Entry Requirements

Applicants should have a good level of English and Maths (Level 2 or GCSE 4/C+) and good ICT skills. A Level 1 or 2 qualification would be helpful but is not mandatory.

Progression

This course could lead to the Diploma in Education and Training (DET) or the PCE or PGCE and therefore to Qualified Teaching of Learning and Skills (QTLS) status.
