Overview

This workshop will take you on an expedition into the fascinating, exciting and sometime terrifying world of dreams. During the workshop you will have the opportunity to gain insight into the history, theory and practice of dream work via brief lectures, group discussion and experiential involvement, resulting in access to deeper realms of the unconscious. 

During the workshop we will identify the perils, pitfalls, and potential disasters of dream work and how best to avoid them.  We will also identify and explore the benefits, joys and insights gained by working with our dreams.

What Will I Study?

Throughout the day you will explore:

  • How and when we dream, including sleep patterns and sleep hygiene 
  • Dream work through known history 
  • Dreams and their relevance in different cultures 
  • Types of dream state 
  • Diverse, and sometimes contentious, psychology/therapy-based dream theories 
  • Dreams…..for what purpose?

You will have the opportunity to:

  • Practise working with dreams safely, ethically and with more confidence by:
  • As a group, working with one of the tutor’s dreams – chosen by the group
  • Work in dyads or triads with dreams of your own 
  • Discuss how to apply learning to self and, if appropriate, in your therapeutic practice
  • Consider how further training to work with dreams in relation to different client groups could be useful

Entry Requirements

This course is open to anyone interested in exploring their dreams. 

It can be particularly useful to those working with trauma, experiencing nightmares or night terrors or simply with an interest in understanding their own dreams.

Materials

Participants are encouraged to bring a notebook and pen for personal reflections and notes. A small aide memoire handbook will be provided for all participants. 

Progression

Upon completion, participants will receive a CPD certificate of attendance, recognising new skills in working with dreams.
