Overview

This evening course offers adult learners a practical introduction to traditional upholstery, suitable for beginners and those with some experience, who want to develop a full understanding of traditional upholstery skills. At the end of the course, you will have upholstered your very own footstool to take home with you!

The course is taught by Katrin Penzkofer from The Polster Project, an AMUSF-qualified upholsterer who is actively working in their own professional upholstery workshop, bringing current industry knowledge and real-world experience into the classroom.

What Will I Study?

Learners will work on a sprung footstool, progressing through key traditional techniques including webbing, springing, stuffing and hand stitching. The course introduces essential tools, materials and safe working practices used in professional upholstery.

You will learn in a friendly and supportive environment, with clear demonstrations and guided hands-on practice at a steady, manageable pace. Learners will build confidence and skill as they work through each stage of the traditional upholstery process.

Entry Requirements

No previous experience is needed.

Materials

All essential tools and materials are provided, including the frame for your footstool. Leaners will need to supply screw-in feet for their footstool and their chosen top fabric. Your tutor will explain this to you during the first session.

Please bring along a thick blanket if possible, as this can be placed on the table to help to reduce noise whilst using certain equipment.

Progression

We may be able to offer additional courses for learners to cover further skills and techniques, subject to demand.
