This part-time course is designed for those already working or volunteering in an Early Years setting, supporting children from birth to 5 years. It provides the opportunity to deepen your expertise, enhance your professional practice, and develop a broader understanding of child development, including the important transition years from ages 5 to 7.
Upon achievement of this qualification learners will be able to enter the workforce as Early Years Educators. The qualification is awarded by NCFE.

What Will I Study?
The course involves attending college for 3 hours a week for 29 weeks and attending your Early Years placement alongside this. Class sessions are taught up until June and assessment in the work place will follow on from this until February. This qualification takes 12-24 months to complete.
This course consists of ten mandatory units, spanning themes such as health and well-being, legislation and professional practice, and play and development. Mandatory units:

Children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND)
Effective Communication in an Early Years Setting
Safeguarding and Welfare Requirements
Health, Wellbeing and Safety
Promoting an Effective Early Years Curriculum
Assessment of Children's Learning and Development
Understanding Play for Learning and Holistic Development
Partnership Working
Entry Requirements
Applicants should be aged 19 or over. Please note that unless already achieved, you will need to gain English GCSE grade C/4 and above (or equivalent), or Functional Skills Level 2, by the end of the qualification to enable you to become a licensed practitioner.
Progression
This course can lead to a Foundation Degree in Early Years followed by a BA (Hons) in Early Years. Both of these qualifications are run at Peter Symonds College.
Applications to join the Teaching and Learning Support or SEND Foundation Degree at the College, would also be considered.
