Overview

This leisure course aims to unpack the basic philosophies, principles and practices of how forensic science is used in criminal investigations. This 10-week course will cover and range of criminal investigation tactics and strategies within a wider social/political context, surrounding the investigation of crimes.   

What Will I Study?

Topics covered include, an introduction to DNA and blood spatter analysis, fingerprints and fingermarks, forensic psychology and offender profiling, digital forensics and false confessions. At the end of the course there is an opportunity to participate in a mock crime scene.   

Please note: This course will discuss behaviours and show images that might be upsetting and distressing for some, trigger warnings will be provided before these sessions start.   

Entry Requirements

No formal entry requirements. Just an open but critical mindset of criminal investigations and criminal justice systems. 

Materials

A pen and paper for note taking. Please note that there may be some extra costs involved for a contribution towards mock crime scene materials.

Progression

We may offer a continuation course or other Criminology-related subjects if there is sufficient interest.
