Overview
The level 2 Diploma in Women’s hairdressing is a qualification that has been specifically designed to develop your practical skills in the creative art of cutting and dressing women’s hair, along with other skills, such as shampooing, colouring and lightening.
You will learn the anatomy of the hair and skin, the physiology of hair growth and potential disorders and diseases. You will also learn about the hair follicle and the hair growth cycle, in addition to learning about health and safety and customer service.
This course involves classroom-based study and theory work, in addition to practical work in our training salons.
What Will I Study?
You will study the following units:
Follow Health and Safety Practice in the Salon
Working in the Hair Salon
Client Consultation for Hair Services
Shampooing and Condition the Hair and Scalp
Colour and Lighten the Hair
Cut Women's Hair
The Art of Dressing Hair
Additional units may include: The Art of Colouring Hair, Salon Reception Duties and Create an Image based on a Theme within the Hair and Beauty Sector.
Students are expected to actively take part in shows and events, as the college is involved in community productions throughout the year. They may be opportunities to visit trade events and fashion shows as part of the course.
Entry Requirements
Applicants must have the ability to work with others and as part of a team. You should also have strong interpersonal and communication skills. Once you have practised your skills sufficiently, you will be working on paying clients to gain professional experience of being a stylist. You will be expected to develop a good professional relationship with your clients and to build up a regular clientele.
Materials
A full hairdressing kit, student uniform and a text book. There is also a material fee which contributes towards all the products used, laundry and other expenses. Further information will be provided at interview.
Progression
On successful completion, students can seek employment or could progress on to the Level 3 Diploma, which would involve studying more advanced techniques of and hairdressing and barbering. You could also study a barbering course to seek employment as a unisex hairdresser.
