The BA (Hons) Early Years is a one year top-up course which has been designed for those who have completed the Foundation Degree in Early Years (or equivalent qualification at level 5) and want to progress to a full BA (Hons) qualification. It is designed and developed for those working or wishing to work with children from birth, within the Early Years Foundation Stage, to the end of the Reception Year in Schools. It includes those working or wishing to work as nannies and child-minders providing that the children being cared for are within the relevant age range.
What Will I Study?
During your BA (Hons) Early Years Top-Up, you'll develop a comprehensive understanding of early childhood education and care while exploring contemporary issues that shape young children's learning and development. You'll examine key theories and research-based approaches, diving deep into how children learn and develop socially and emotionally. The course emphasises practical applications, teaching you to create enabling environments that support children's natural curiosity and learning, including innovative approaches to outdoor education. You'll also gain valuable insights into leadership and management within early years settings, preparing you for senior roles in the sector.
As you progress, you'll enhance your professional practice through modules that combine theoretical knowledge with hands-on experience. You'll learn to critically evaluate different pedagogical approaches and their impact on children's development, while developing skills in observation, assessment, and planning. You will undertake an independent research project, allowing you to investigate an area of early years education that particularly interests you. This dissertation will help you develop advanced research skills while contributing to your understanding of specific aspects of early childhood education, such as inclusive practice, sustainability, or digital learning.
