A hands-on course designed for woodworkers with basic knowledge who want to create a beautiful, custom-made jewellery box. Students will learn essential woodworking techniques, tool safety, and finish with a personally crafted piece. Classes run for 2.5 hours one evening per week.
Ideally, students will have studied our 10-week Woodwork for Beginners course prior to enrolment on this course. We are also happy to accept students who are new to the College who have some prior experience and practical knowledge. Please contact us if you are unsure about your suitability for this course.
The college will provide all tools and machinery, safety equipment, abrasives and finishing materials, workshop consumables. Students are required to provide timber for their project (detailed below), hinges and any optional decorative elements. Please be aware that the timber merchant below requires a turnaround time of 7 days.
Timber:
The timber required can be sourced from Yandles. Follow the link to the ordering page and follow the instructions. The size required is 2300mm long x 180mm wide x 16mm thick. You may choose any timber from the drop-down menu based on budget and preference, but the tutor recommends avoiding yellow pine. The type of machined finish should be PAR. Prices range from £30 - £90, plus postage.
Hinges
You will require one pair of solid drawn brass butt hinges (sold in pairs, complete with screws) which can be obtained from Ironmongery Direct.

Stuart is an experienced furniture & cabinet maker having run his own professional workshop & business for 30 years. He specialised in making and designing bespoke fitted & freestanding furniture. Now after 30 years in the industry he wants to pass on his skills & and inspire students to develop their own skills in woodwork. Stuart studied furniture design & crafts at Rycotewood College near Oxford in the early 90's & now works from his home based woodturning & cabinet making workshop.
