Overview

This course aims to help you to further build your confidence in using a sewing machine and develop skills in techniques for constructing garments. In this course, you will work with more challenging fabrics (such as silks and stretchy fabrics) to further develop your knowledge and skills. Participants will make a camisole top and shorts and are expected to bring their own materials (including patterns) and will be advised beforehand what to bring.

This course can also be used as an ‘open studio’ for those with experience who would like to work independently with access to specialist equipment and tutor support.

What Will I Study?

In this course, you will adjust a camisole top and pyjama shorts. We will look at pattern grading and adjusting commercial patterns, as well as using a commercial pattern to make a garment of choice. We will also cover:

  • How to work with silks and stretchy fabrics
  • Pattern markings
  • Pinning on and cutting out
  • Order of work
  • Edge Finishes and hems, facings & bindings
  • Buttons, button holes and zips
  • Inseam and patch pockets
  • Straps
