Overview

This course aims to help you to further build your confidence in using a sewing machine and develop skills in techniques for constructing garments. In this course, you will work with more challenging garment construction techniques to further develop your knowledge and skills. Participants will make a casual unisex jacket and are expected to bring their own materials (you will be advised beforehand what to bring).

This course can also be used as an ‘open studio’ for those with experience who would like to work independently with access to specialist equipment and tutor support.

What Will I Study?

In this course, you will create a casual unisex jacket. We will look at pattern grading and adjusting commercial patterns to make a garment of choice. We will also cover:

  • Pattern markings
  • Pinning on and cutting out
  • Order of work
  • Garment fitting and alterations.
  • Edge Finishes and hems, facings & bindings
  • Buttons, buttonholes, and alternative fastenings.
  • Collars and patch pockets

Entry Requirements

You need to have a solid knowledge of how to use a sewing machine. Do get in touch if you have any queries regarding your suitability for this course. 

Materials

Participants are expected to bring their own materials. Your tutor will contact you to advise what to bring before the start of the course.
