PGCE/Cert Ed qualifications do not count as Level 7 in respect to your ability to access funding. Please see the funding fact sheet for more information regarding student finance and payment options.

What Will I Study?

The overarching aim of this course is to develop your management and leadership skills to assist you in making the next step in your career.

The course aims to provide a programme which develops your ability to manage and lead in educational settings. Through modules such as Developing Effective Leadership and Management you will enhance your ability to drive forward change within an organisation whilst being aware of the external environment within which a school or college operates. You will cover topics such as leadership and management theory, human resource management, finance and budgeting and marketing. In addition, you will also look at curriculum design and its “fit” bearing in mind the needs of your target audience and the funding implications that accompany these decisions.

Within the Developing Effective Teaching and Learning Module you will critically analyse current pedagogical approaches and reflect on your own ability to apply them in the classroom. The module will also develop your skills so that you are able to not only improve your own practice, but also enhance the teaching and learning of a subject or faculty team.

The Research Methods and Research Dissertation Modules work to develop your academic writing to meet the requirements of Level 7. You will complete a detailed and extensive project of your choice which should have a direct impact on your current practice.

Assessment includes essays, reports, individual and presentations, case studies, research reports and several work-based assignments. These strategies are designed to enable the development and application of key transferable skills in an educational setting. There are no examinations.

Entry Requirements

You would need to hold a Degree Level (Level 6) qualification at 2:2 or above. This does not need to be in education. For example, if you have a Science degree at 2:2 or above and wish to progress your career into management then you would have the entry criteria for this course.

Progression

The course prepares you for a leadership and/or management role in any education setting. If you already hold such a role, this course would help you in making the next step. You could also progress onto a Doctoral programme upon completion of this course.
