This course is open to everyone and anyone who is interested in learning about contemporary textiles and different textile techniques including dyeing and manipulating fabric, free machine embroidery on dissolvable fabric and batik. This 6-week course will give you an insight into some textiles techniques that you can use in your own projects.
Students will be introduced to different textile techniques and will experiment with each. They will learn basic skills, enabling them to create individual and personal textile pieces using a range of materials.
Learners will also look at artists and designers work for inspiration. Each session students will be given advice, guidance and a practical demonstration of textile techniques. Students will then have a go with experimenting with the technique shown in the demonstration.
There may be some work students could do as homework each week, but the tasks would be small and optional. You will cover the following:
There are no entry requirements for this course, just your creative enthusiasm! Basic knowledge on how to use a sewing machine would be an advantage. All sewing machines provided.
The material costs are included in the course fee. You are welcome to bring any pieces of fabric, yarns, papers or anything you would like to personally incorporate into your work.
Please bring along an image, visuals, object or photographs you can work from to get inspiration for colour, pattern and texture. You will be provided with an apron, but please do not wear your best clothes!
This experience could lead to further Textile courses learning about different techniques and making textile designs for pleasure, your portfolio or profit.
