Overview

This course is for adults with approximately two years of French study who would like to go through some of the basics again while also studying some more advanced material. You will continue improving your ability to communicate and your knowledge of French culture.

To join at this level, you should have a basic knowledge of vocabulary and proficiency with the present tense.

What Will I Study?

You will expand your vocabulary and grammar using all four language skills (speaking, listening, reading and writing) on practical topics to enable you to communicate. You will be revising the use of the present, pronunciation of difficult sounds and vocabulary for describing people and places.

We will cover a range of topics, which may include:

  • Talking about yourself – your family, hobbies, daily activities, past and future holidays
  • Learning how to communicate while shopping
  • Travel – how to get to places, travelling by train, making enquiries or bookings etc.
  • Dealing with problems such as going to the doctor's or chemist's

You will also be studying the grammar of the language. Some of the grammar points to be studied are:

  • Consolidation of the present tense including irregular and reflexive verbs
  • Immediate future tense with aller
  • Past tenses, in particular the perfect and imperfect
  • Pronouns of different types e.g: object and emphatic pronouns.

Homework is given on a weekly basis. To benefit most from the course, you will be encouraged to read the materials used during lessons and refer to the course book.
