Overview

This course is for adults who can express themselves well in Italian, using a good range of vocabulary and tenses, including the present subjunctive. To join at this level, you should have an adequate knowledge of the language having studied Italian for at least 5 or 6 years, or equivalent. In this course you will learn to talk more fluently and accurately and express opinions, listen to a wide range of audio materials and read and translate texts from and into Italian.

Homework is given on a weekly basis. To benefit most from the course, you will be encouraged to read the materials used during each lesson and complete the relevant worksheets.

What Will I Study?

We will revise and consolidate the vocabulary and the grammatical structures learned in the previous years. Students will practise all four skills (reading, writing, speaking and listening), but in class we will focus more on listening and speaking (reading and writing will be the basis of the homework).

Throughout this course you will learn to:

  • Read authentic fiction and non-fiction texts.
  • Write essays and translate sentences and texts into Italian
  • Improve listening skills by listening to authentic audio and video materials
  • Improve speaking skills - through pair /group work in class
  • Revise of grammar and vocabulary

Entry Requirements

You should have an adequate knowledge of the language having studied Italian for at least 5 or 6 years, or equivalent. You should be able to understand longer texts and feel comfortable giving your opinion on topics of a familiar nature. You should also be able to write simple but well-structured sentences using the present and the past indicative, as well as the present and past subjunctive.

Materials

Please bring pen, paper and a folder. Text books will be discussed at the first session. 

Progression

We offer a Semester 2 that begins immediately after Semester 1 and is an integral part of the course, the exact length of which will be decided in the spring term. You would then be able to progress to the next level.
