Adult & Higher Education

This course is for adults who have studied Spanish for a few years, feel fairly confident speaking Spanish and who want to continue improving and expanding their knowledge of Spanish culture. To join at this level, you should have a fairly good knowledge of all Indicative Tenses and have studied the language for at least 5 years.

You will expand your vocabulary and grammar using all four language skills (speaking, listening, reading and writing) on practical topics to enable you to communicate. You will also learn how to contrast the different past tenses, use Imperative and start to understand Subjunctive Mode.

Homework is given on a weekly basis. To benefit most from the course, you will be encouraged to read the materials used during lessons and refer to the course book.

You will:

• revise the use of all past tenses, different types of pronouns and other hard grammar points
• learn how to contrast the different past tenses, use Imperative and start to understand Subjunctive Mode (Present and Imperfect of Subjunctive) 
• improve your spoken and written Spanish, as well as working on your listening and reading skills. We will read a novel and discuss the selected chapters every week.
• explore Spanish culture and be able to speak in public during a few minutes about a certain aspect  of your choice of Spain

You need to have a good intermediate level of the language and have studied the language for at least 5 years. You should be able to:

• converse about different topics using past and future tenses
• understand conversations about other people’s lives and interests
• write a text, letter, story, etc. using all Indicative tenses and Imperative.

Please bring a pen, paper and a folder. Textbook will be discussed at the first session.

Semester 2 begins immediately after Semester 1 and is an integral part of the course, the exact length of which will be decided in the spring term. You would then be able to progress to the next level.
