Overview

The Level 2 Diploma in Beauty Specialist Techniques is a course that has been specifically designed to develop your practical beauty therapy skills. Throughout this course, learners will become competent and confident in the skills that salons require, making you employable within the beauty sector. You will learn practical skills in each unit, gain experience of client care and an understanding of how to operate within relevant health and safety guidelines. Learners will start to work on fee paying clients early in the course to gain good communication skills, develop outstanding client care and customer service skills and to gain experience of dealing with a variety of clients’ needs in a professional manner.

Please note that in addition to the taught hours above, you will be expected to carry out self-directed study of at least four hours a week. 

What Will I Study?

  • Health & Safety in the Salon
  • Client Care and Communications in Beauty Related Industries
  • Providing Manicure Treatments
  • Providing Pedicure Treatments
  • Applying Make-Up
  • Providing Eyelash and Brow Treatments
  • Providing Facial Skincare
  • Removing Hair Using Waxing Techniques
  • Salon Reception Duties
  • Provide Nail Art
  • Create an Image based on a Theme within the Hair and Beauty Sector
  • Skin Tanning Techniques

Learners will also have the opportunity to gain additional commercial skills throughout the year, e.g. gel varnish certificate and application of eyelash extensions.

Students will be expected to complete at least five hours per week additional study and revision (variable throughout course), to increase confidence and consolidate learning. Candidates will also need to undertake five practical case studies outside guided learning hours for inclusion in their portfolio.

Entry Requirements

Applicants should have good interpersonal and communication abilities, as they will be dealing with customers within the service industry. A willingness to be part of a team is also beneficial.

Materials

You will need a beauty therapy uniform and a student text book. Order forms for both of these are available at interview, as the college has negotiated a discount from our suppliers. Further books will be discussed at the first lesson.

Progression

Students naturally progress to the Level 3 Beauty Therapy course in order to gain further skills ready for employment in the beauty sector. Alternatively, you may consider employment in a salon or spa and could also consider working as a self-employed or mobile therapist. You may wish to undertake further study.

  • Free for eligible courses if this is your first full Level 2 qualification or you are unemployed and on active benefits or if you earn a gross annual salary of less than £20,319 or at college discretion (please enquire).
