Overview

This course is designed for students who have learned some French before, for example a year 1 course or equivalent, who would like to continue improving their ability to communicate in French. 

To join at this level, you should have some basic knowledge of vocabulary and have an idea about verbs in the present tense.  

What Will I Study?

You will expand your vocabulary and grammar using all four language skills (speaking, listening, reading and writing) focusing on practical topics to enable you to communicate. You will consolidate the use of the present tense, learn aspects of the near future tense, and develop reading, listening and comprehension skills.

You will broaden your knowledge of everyday vocabulary and expand your understanding of verbs.

Possible topics include:

  • Food shopping
  • Flavours and main ingredients
  • Money
  • Holidays and future plans
  • Parts of the body, including trips to the Doctors or Chemists.

Homework is given on a weekly basis. To benefit most from the course, you will be encouraged to read the materials used during lessons and refer to the course book.

Entry Requirements

To join at this level, it would help if you have some basic knowledge and be able to use the present tense. You should be keen to speak French on topics of everyday life and have some familiarity with basic vocabulary and key phrases.

Materials

Text books  will be discussed at the first session. Please bring pen, paper and a folder.

Progression

We offer a Semester 2 that begins immediately after Semester 1 and is an integral part of the course, the exact length of which will be decided in the Spring term. You would then be able to progress to the next level.
