Overview

Italian Year 1 is for complete beginners who have had very little or no contact with the language. You are not expected to have any pre-existing knowledge – just a willingness and determination to learn! During this course you will be exposed to all four language skills (reading, writing, speaking and listening), providing you with a solid grounding in Italian.

Homework is given on a weekly basis - to benefit most from the course, you will be encouraged to read the materials used during lessons and refer to the course book.

What Will I Study?

You will learn some basic language and grammatical structures so that you can deal with a number of the practical situations you might find as a tourist such as asking for directions and ordering food etc.

Students will have the opportunity to read and understand simple texts and write and translate a range of words, phrases and simple sentences. You will listen to the teacher and audio materials and will speak in class, including reading aloud.

You will learn:

  • pronunciation of the language and its basic grammatical framework
  • to understand and use some basic linguistic functions and useful phrases, such as those you might find in tourist situations (e.g. ordering food, asking for directions and shopping)
  • reading, writing, speaking and listening skills

Entry Requirements

No previous qualifications or knowledge of the language is necessary – this course is suitable for complete beginners.

Progression
