Italian Year 1 is for complete beginners who have had very little or no contact with the language. You are not expected to have any pre-existing knowledge – just a willingness and determination to learn! During this course you will be exposed to all four language skills (reading, writing, speaking and listening), providing you with a solid grounding in Italian.
Homework is given on a weekly basis - to benefit most from the course, you will be encouraged to read the materials used during lessons and refer to the course book.
What Will I Study?
You will learn some basic language and grammatical structures so that you can deal with a number of the practical situations you might find as a tourist such as asking for directions and ordering food etc.
Students will have the opportunity to read and understand simple texts and write and translate a range of words, phrases and simple sentences. You will listen to the teacher and audio materials and will speak in class, including reading aloud.
You will learn:
pronunciation of the language and its basic grammatical framework
to understand and use some basic linguistic functions and useful phrases, such as those you might find in tourist situations (e.g. ordering food, asking for directions and shopping)
reading, writing, speaking and listening skills
