Overview

Artificial Intelligence has the potential to be the defining issue facing humanity in the 21st century. While current public discourse often focuses on rapid technological shifts and economic disruption, the core questions surrounding AI - from the nature of consciousness to what it means to lead a meaningful life - are far from new. Philosophers have grappled with these foundational topics for hundreds, even thousands, of years. Yet, the mainstream conversation around AI rarely incorporates these rich, time-tested perspectives.

This short course examines what AI truly is, why it differs fundamentally from any technology that has come before, and where our collective trajectory may lead. By bringing historical insight into modern debate, we will explore the rise of a potentially infinitely powerful machine through a rigorous, thoughtful lens.

What Will I Study?

Throughout the course, classical and modern thinkers, including Plato, Descartes, Marx, and Aristotle, will serve as our guides to understanding synthetic intelligence and its impact on human civilisation.
