Overview

This Personal and Professional Development (PPD) group offers a supportive and collaborative space in a closed group setting for counsellors and psychotherapists using Transactional Analysis. Meeting monthly for 3-hour sessions in a small, focused setting (maximum 8 participants), the group will provide a unique opportunity to deepen your clinical practice, further explore TA theory, and receive targeted professional practice.

The group is taught and facilitated by Lori Hedges PTSTA(p), foundation degree tutor in TA, and practicing psychotherapist and clinical supervisor. Utilising a relational and constructivist approach to learning, the group is designed to be highly responsive to the developmental needs of practitioners in the room.

Sessions will take place on the following dates:

  • 22nd October
  • 19th November
  • 17th December
  • 21st January
  • 25th February
  • 25th March
  • 29th April
  • 27th May
  • 24th June

What Will I Study?

Rather than following a rigid syllabus, this group is participant-menu led. this means you and your peers will direct the focus of each session based on what you want or need to explore that month.

Topics and activities may include:

  • Clinical Practice and Supervision: Bringing a piece of clinical work for supervision, navigating risk and safeguarding, or practical guidance on setting up and managing a private practice.
  • Relating TA theory to practice: Deep-diving into specific theoretical frameworks, and advanced theory, exploring how to use these in clinical work.
  • Discussion & Debate: Reviewing TA journal articles, exploring a specific clinical theme, or discussing intersectionality, diversity, and power dynamics in the therapeutic relationship.

Entry Requirements

Applicants must have completed a foundation training programme in TA and currently be in (or setting up) practice as a counsellor.

Materials

As part of the participant-menu driven approach, group members are encouraged to come to each session with an idea of what they would like to bring -  whether that is a theoretical or practice-based question, a journal article for discussion, or a piece for supervision. All standard teaching materials will be provided.

Progression

These sessions provide flexible, high-quality continuing professional development. Attendance can be counted as general CPD for any professional body.

For those on, or planning to progress to advanced TA training or CTA pathways, the 3-hour sessions can be logged as TA training hours. If you bring a piece of work for clinical supervision during a session, that specific hour can be alternatively counted as a TA supervision hour.
