Overview

This 2-month online programme is designed specifically for Iron Mills students wishing to progress onto year 2 of the Foundation Degree in Counselling. The course will develop specific Transactional Analysis theory and application, enabling students to be ready to start the second year of the Foundation Degree in Humanistic Counselling Based on Transactional Analysis in September 2026.

What Will I Study?

Transactional analysis (TA) is a widely recognised form of modern psychology that involves a set of practical conceptual tools designed to promote personal growth and change. It is considered a fundamental therapy for well-being and for helping individuals to reach their full potential in all aspects of life.

Students will gain an overview of the history and origins of TA, as well as an understanding of the philosophical assumptions of TA and will learn some of the basic concepts e.g. Ego States, Transactions and Strokes and Games. They will also demonstrate an understanding of how this can be applied in the therapy room and reflect on this within their own personal and professional development.

The module will consist of 4 mini modules, each taking two weeks to complete. Each mini module will be assessed via short assignments. In the fourth mini module, there will be a reflective piece that draws the theory together.

The Mini Modules start on the following dates

  • 6th July

There will be online workshops for each mini module on the following dates (all are 6pm – 9pm)
