This bespoke Year 2 (Level 5) course is specifically for those trainees affected by the closure of Iron Mill, who are looking to continue with their training.
Please note that this course uses Transactional Analysis theory as a main theoretical model and applicants will need to complete a bridging model as part of the course to ensure they have the appropriate TA knowledge. Students should note that his course is not accredited by the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP).
At Level 5, time will be spent in an approved agency undertaking 1:1 counselling with clients, attending agency supervision and possibly team days in the agency. Time will also be spent on preparation for supervision, research, preparation for presentations, reading around and assignment writing.
This course is quality assured by Middlesex University and you will receive a Middlesex award on successful completion.
What Will I Study?
Students will continue to develop an awareness of the ethical and professional responsibilities of a counsellor and practise accordingly, applying a humanistic approach and TA model to client work. Students will also use supervision and personal therapy to support their personal and professional development.
There are three main threads running through the course: Theory, Professional Development and Personal Development. You will study the following modules:

Transactional Analysis Theory Application
Literature review
Mental Health
Theory and Practice
Personnel Development
This course will include 18 weeks of supervision (online) for 2 hours. These supervision hours will be agreed, per group, between the supervisor and supervisees
Entry Requirements
Applicants for this course should have successfully completed a Level 4 course in Counselling Skills with Iron Mill College. Students will also need to complete our Summer TA-focused bridging module before starting the course.
All students must have a GCSE English (or equivalent) at grade 4/C or above. Please note that applicants whose first language is not English are required to have an IELTS score of 6.5 or higher.
Progression
On completing this Level 5 course, you may apply to study for one further year to achieve a full BA (Hons) in Humanistic & Integrative Counselling (available at Peter Symonds College). We also offer a further Masters Level qualification to those wishing to continue with their study.
