In this relaxed and friendly one-day workshop, we’ll explore the fundamentals of hand embroidery through a series of simple stitching techniques and creative exercises. This course is designed for complete beginners and anyone wanting to build confidence with embroidery in a supportive and creative environment.
Participants will learn how to use embroidery tools and materials, practise a variety of basic stitches and explore ways of combining stitch, colour, and texture to create decorative textile samples and small stitched artworks. Whether you are interested in embroidery for relaxation, creativity, fashion, or craft, this workshop offers an enjoyable introduction to the possibilities of hand stitching.
What Will I Study?
You will learn a range of beginner-friendly embroidery techniques and how to apply them to fabric using simple designs and patterns. We will cover how to prepare fabric in an embroidery hoop, thread needles, transfer designs and combine stitches to create texture and decorative effects.
Students will practise stitches such as running stitch, back stitch, satin stitch, seed stitch, chain stitch, and French knots. We will also explore colour combinations, layering thread, and ways of creating pattern and texture through stitch.
You may choose to create a stitched sampler, small hoop artwork, decorative motif, or personalised textile piece in crazy patchwork. The focus of the workshop is on learning techniques, experimenting creatively and building confidence with embroidery.
