What will I study?

Students applying for an Access to HE Diploma in Nursing & Midwifery can choose to study four subjects. You must study the following:

  • Professional Healthcare Practice
  • either Biology or Human Physiology 
  • Study Skills

You must also choose one of the following:

  • Chemistry 
  • English at Level 3
  • Psychology 
  • Maths at Level 3

Please note: Every nursing and midwifery degree will require you to have Maths and English GCSE, or equivalent.

WHY STUDY ACCESS TO HE AT AHED?

  1. In 2026 all students who completed an Access course satisfactorily were offered a place at university.
  2. About 80% of students get an offer at their first choice university.
  3. We support all students with the application process for university, including interviews. 
  4. Our teachers are experts in their subjects and experienced in supporting Access students to achieve their goals.
  5. We offer a diploma pathway to suit most progression routes.
  6. Small class sizes and dedicated tutor support helps us get to know you as an individual; we pride ourselves on counting in ones.
