Access student pursues dream of teaching on Foundation Degree
Access to HE student, Ami Skeet, has taken her first major step towards a teaching career after successfully completing her Access to Higher Education (HE) Primary Teaching Diploma at the college. Ami, who enrolled on the course with the hope of becoming a teacher, credits her success to the support and guidance of her Access course tutor, Chrissie Rycroft.
“The access course was incredibly enjoyable and the knowledge I gained from it is now being put to use on my degree course. The tutors were so helpful and knowledgeable in their subjects and they gave great feedback. Chrissie was so amazing and encouraging, and she is the reason I stayed on the course and am now doing my degree! I’m very grateful that I found AHED, as I can now pursue my career - before I was stuck and didn’t know what I would end up doing!”
Thanks to her hard work and dedication on the Access course, Ami is now enrolled on the college’s Foundation Degree in Teaching and Learning Support. While studying, she’s also gaining valuable industry experience, working in an educational setting to build her skills and knowledge. Ami is excited about her her future and is well on her way to achieving her dream of becoming a primary school teacher. Dom Thompson, Director of Adult & HE, explained the importance of adult education centres in providing a second chance. “Ami’s story highlights the impact adult education courses have in providing an opportunity to change your path and pursue your dream career.”
Degree courses at the College are structured to enable students to work alongside study, allowing them to continue earning and gaining relevant industry experience. They are perfect for those looking to change career and are a great option for this with families and another commitments, who might otherwise struggle to access a Higher Education course.
