Step back in time to explore one of the most captivating periods in English history with our new Anglo-Saxon course, launching this autumn. This engaging 10-week evening programme delves into the rich tapestry of early England, with a particular focus on Winchester, the Royal Capital of the Kingdom of Wessex, and the surrounding area.

Led by Historian, Dr James Connelly, learners will explore the history, culture and legacy of the people who shaped early England, including their migration to Britain and the rise of powerful kingdoms that dominated the landscape for 500 years.

This is a non-accredited course designed purely for the joy of learning and discovery. Whether you're a complete beginner or someone with a passion for history, you'll find a warm welcome and a relaxed and social learning environment. The sessions are designed to be interactive and engaging, with plenty of opportunities to discuss fascinating finds, share insights, and connect with fellow history enthusiasts.

Leisure Heads of Curriculum, Kay Cooper & Anna Harding, commented, “we introduced this course directly in response to student feedback – many students indicated they would like the opportunity to explore History as a topic, and we felt that a focus on local History would be a great starting point.”

No prior qualifications or experience are required – just bring your curiosity and enthusiasm for one of the most formative periods in English history. The course runs weekly in the evenings, making it perfect for anyone looking to pursue their interest in history alongside work or other commitments. A full course outline is available on our website and students can enrol online. Any queries should be directed to ahedleisure@psc.ac.uk.
