Information About The Post
Peter Symonds is a vibrant sixth form college in Winchester which is rated by Ofsted as ‘Outstanding’. We have a large team of committed and talented staff who are at the heart of the success of the College.
Our Study Support staff provide advice, guidance and support to students with additional learning needs in the College both in class and in the department. Among those students are a number who have an EHCP (Education and Health Care Plan), which means that they receive additional support and will generally have other agencies involved in their care.
The successful candidate will work with the Deputy Head of Study Support, one other part-time EHCP Caseworker and the wider team in the provision of an exceptional service to our students with complex needs. Duties include: casework; transition planning; exam access arrangements assessments; risk assessments; chairing and coordinating termly/annual reviews and liaising with other professionals.
EHCP Caseworkers work 39 weeks a year which is term time plus a week. The hours are 8:30 – 16:40 with a 50 minute lunch break, Thursday and Friday.
Experience of working with students with complex needs and Education Heath Care Plans (within any educational setting) is essential as is having an understanding of EHCP legislation and the Code of Practice. Prior experience of having acted as a lead professional within the EHCP annual review process and of working with multi-disciplinary teams is desirable.
You must be physically fit to undertake manual handling and to provide personal care to students with disabilities (with training if required). Most important is empathy and rapport with young people and a genuine desire to help them reach their potential.
Please see advertised Study Support Caseworker and Combined Caseworker positions.
