Information About The Post

Peter Symonds is located in Winchester.  It is a vibrant sixth form college which has been rated by Ofsted as ‘outstanding’ in every respect. Standards of music provision at the College are exceptionally high and the extra-curricular programme is outstanding. We have over 70 students studying A level Music and are home to the Hampshire Specialist Music Course, a gifted and talented programme which includes coaching in chamber music. Many of our students go on to study at the country’s most competitive conservatoires and universities.

We have a vacancy for a Teacher of Singing to join the team on a part-time basis. The number of hours depending on the demand from individual students.  We are likely to be able to offer additional contracts in future years. This is an exciting opportunity for an exceptional singer and teacher, who is passionate about repertoire but, above all, who delights in helping young people develop their skills and interests. We are looking for a teacher who can inspire and guide students at all levels, including those who sing to a very high level (diploma standard) and who are aiming for conservatoire.

We are looking for a teacher with excellent technique who specialises in classical repertoire, duties will involve teaching the advanced singing students, including those on the HSMC course, specialising in classical repertoire suitable for high ABRSM grades, Diplomas, Oxbridge choral scholarships and Conservatoire auditions. We also have many talented Music Theatre singers, and are looking for their needs to be covered by one of our singing teachers, so a specialism in this field would be an advantage. Competent pianists are at an advantage, as the need to interpret and communicate a piano accompaniment is extremely beneficial to our students in lessons (both charts and scores), as is skill in improvisation. Please outline in your application how you feel that your existing experience meets our needs and what you feel you can bring to the post.

The Head of Keyboard has additional rehearsals with students and accompanies them in lunchtime concerts and recitals. Students not taking A level Music may apply for private singing lessons during the college day, adding to your timetable. All instrumental and vocal lessons take place in students’ free periods.

More details and information on how to apply are available on our website. If you require further assistance please phone the Personnel Department on 01962 857557 or email jobs@psc.ac.uk quoting the reference number.
