Information About The Post

Peter Symonds is located in Winchester.  It is a vibrant sixth form college which has been rated by Ofsted as ‘outstanding’. Our unofficial College motto has long been ‘Counting in Ones’ and we work hard to make this a supportive and friendly place to study, with every student treated as an individual. Not only is this at the heart of our work with our students, but we also strive to support and value our staff in the same way.

Our busy Student Services Department provides a resource for students on a day to day basis. Some of these services are routine, such as the allocation of lockers, while others are more complex as the team is often the first point of contact for students with a wide range of queries. We are looking for someone to join the team to organise and promote a wide range of health promotion events and activities for our students, working closely with external agencies. Hours of work are 16 per week and term time plus Enrolment Week. You would need to be able to work one full day, 8.15am – 4.45pm, ideally on Fridays, but the remaining hours could form another full day or two shorter days to suit you.

You will have empathy with the 16 – 19 age group, excellent communication and listening skills. You will have an excellent awareness of the sorts of health and wellbeing issues affecting young people today. You will be able to work under pressure in what can be a lively and noisy common room environment, having good IT and administrative skills. Experience in working with this age group is an advantage but is not essential.

Our staff are at the heart of what we do at the College, we are proudly anti-racist and our motto is ‘Counting in ones’ which applies to staff as well as the students. We offer special leave for various special occasions, support from the Hub, staff-run groups, staff choir, Monday night football, regular staff forums, an inclusive, supportive and kind culture, no expectations to answer emails out of hours (with an automated message to alert the sender), lunch provided at all lunchtime meetings, ‘5 days of Christmas’ treats, end of term meals and activities and bike and computer loans to name but a few of our initiatives.

More details and information on how to apply are available on our website. If you require further assistance please phone the Personnel Department on 01962 857557 or email jobs@psc.ac.uk quoting the reference number.

We are dedicated to safeguarding the students in our care.
