This two-year course will combines the VTCT Level 2 and Level 3 in Hairdressing. You will be able to develop your practical skills to a high level of occupational ability to enable you to perform your own salon services. 

Course Content

You will be able to build practical skills in:

  • the creative art of cutting or dressing hair
  • how to provide effective shampooing and conditioning services
  • the artistic skill of colouring and lightening hair 
  • how to provide a good consultation service for your clients

To further enhance your practical skills, you will have the opportunity to choose from the following units:

  • how to provide perming and neutralising services
  • effective scalp massage services
  • how to create a hair and beauty image
  • plaiting and twisting hair 
  • colouring hair using semi and temporary colour
  •  style and finish afro-textured hair 
  • displaying stock or promoting products and services to clients
  • the opportunity of working on a salon reception

Underpinning this qualification, you will develop a sound knowledge and understanding of each unit including health and safety and what it is like to work in the hairdressing industry.

 

Methods of Teaching

Work will be set to improve your practical skills, knowledge and understanding of hairdressing. For practical elements, you will be observed by your assessor. All your work must be collected in a portfolio of evidence and cross-referenced to requirements listed in this record of assessment book.

Theory (exam): 50%
Practical: 50%

Where Could It Take Me?

This qualification will qualify you for employment as a hairdresser in a variety of contexts, including:

  • commercial beauty salons
  • destination and day spas
  • working independently/self-employed/mobile/home-based settings

Whilst this qualification's primary purpose is to prepare you for employment you may choose to develop your skills further by undertaking qualifications at Level 4, including VTCT Level 4 Diploma in Salon Management.

Entry Requirements

A minimum of two GCSEs at grade 4 or above, preferably to include English Language and Maths.
