Exam Access Arrangements
We can offer exam access arrangements to support students subject to regulations as specified by the Joint Council for Qualifications (JCQ). The purpose of these arrangements is to ensure that students are not placed at a substantial disadvantage due to persistent and significant difficulties.
We seek to identify students who may require such arrangements as early as possible. If you have previously had them, you will need to inform us as they are not automatically carried over from school. We will conduct specialist assessments taking into account your needs and your normal way of working within the College.
Identification
We seek to identify students who may require exam access arrangements as early as possible, ideally at the start of your course. We conduct thorough assessments by qualified professionals, such as specialist (SpLD) teachers and medical caseworkers, to determine your specific needs. We collect evidence of your normal way of working e.g. previous arrangements, interventions, teacher feedback and internal tests/exams.
Application
In the case of a medical need, a caseworker will require you to provide evidence from a medical professional. However, in the case of a learning need, we have specialist (SpLD) teacher assessors who are qualified to conduct their own assessments for exam access arrangements. Applications are best made as early as possible and the College will ensure that all required documentation, including assessment reports and evidence of need, is complete and submitted with the application to the awarding bodies.
Implementation
We have a vast number of trained invigilators and other relevant staff who fully understand the specific requirements and procedures for implementing exam access arrangements. We clearly communicate any approved arrangements to you and your parents/carers through the learning portal. Teachers will conduct practice sessions and utilise mock examinations with any approved arrangements in place to ensure you are comfortable and familiar with the process.
