Deputy Head of Study Support
We are looking for an experienced, motivated, and student-focused individual to join our college as our Deputy Head of Study Support.
The details for this post are as follows:
Information About The Post
Peter Symonds is a vibrant sixth form college in Winchester, which has been rated by Ofsted as ‘outstanding’. We have a large team of committed and talented staff who are at the heart of the success of the College, and we are renowned for our welcoming community, academic excellence and commitment to providing every learner with the tools to succeed. Guided by our motto, “Counting in ones,” we recognise and celebrate the individuality of every student, ensuring they receive personalised support to reach their full potential.
The Study Support Department provides specialist help to students who attend the College, to enable them to access learning throughout their time here. The department is able to offer support for students with specific learning differences, physical and sensory impairments, medical conditions and/or social, emotional and mental health difficulties. Support is bespoke and based on individual needs but may take the form of specialist teaching, in-class support, individual sessions, equipment loans and/or personalised exam access arrangements.
We are currently recruiting for a Deputy to join the team, who will be assisting the Head of Study Support in setting strategic priorities for SEND provision, ensuring smooth departmental operations and sharing best practice across the team and wider College. The successful candidate will be expected to build strong partnerships with external professionals, parents and teachers and to line-manage Learning Support Assistants and EHCP Caseworkers alongside managing a caseload of students with SEND.
Our staff are at the heart of what we do at the College, we are proudly anti-racist and our motto is ‘Counting in ones’ which applies to staff as well as the students. We offer special leave for various special occasions, support from the Hub, staff-run groups, staff choir, Monday night football, regular staff forums, an inclusive, supportive and kind culture, no expectations to answer emails out of hours (with an automated message to alert the sender), lunch provided at all lunchtime meetings, ‘5 days of Christmas’ treats, end of term meals and activities and bike and computer loans to name but a few of our initiatives.
More details and information on how to apply are available on our website. If you require further assistance please phone the Personnel Department on 01962 857557 or email jobs@psc.ac.uk quoting the reference number.
We are dedicated to safeguarding the students in our care. Our staff undertake regular safeguarding and Prevent training and are subject to ongoing safeguarding scrutiny.
