Payroll Specialist - initial fixed-term 3-month contract, rolling

Peter Symonds is a vibrant sixth form college in Winchester which has been rated by Ofsted as ‘outstanding’ in every respect. We have a large team of committed and talented staff who are at the heart of the success of the College. We are currently looking for an immediately available payroll specialist who can join our team to take over responsibility for running the payroll, fully documenting processes and managing all tasks related to payroll processing through to completion, including inputting variable data, checking payroll output and preparing and submitting pension and HMRC reports and returns.

Information About The Post

Working in our small Personnel team, this role will be hands-on, dealing with all payroll matters for our staff.  You will need to hit the ground running, and whilst there is a hand-over on offer, the post-holder must be confident and able to pick up and run the payroll for a staff of about 800 people. 

Main duties will include:

  • Processing monthly payroll data accurately and promptly.
  • Resolving payroll discrepancies and answering employee payroll queries.
  • Ensuring compliance with relevant tax laws and regulations.
  • Preparing payroll reports for finance and management review.
  • Coordinating with colleagues for new hires, terminations, and pay adjustments.
  • Maintaining confidentiality of payroll information.
  • Assisting in internal and external audits related to payroll.
