Information About The Post

Peter Symonds is a vibrant sixth form college in Winchester which is proud to be rated by Ofsted as ‘outstanding’ in every respect. We have a large team of committed and talented staff who are at the heart of the success of the College.

A key member of the College wellbeing team, the Mental Health & Wellbeing Adviser helps supports students experiencing anxiety and related mental health difficulties who need help to identify coping strategies and build resilience. You will work as part of a team to oversee our student Hub, offering drop-in, one to one appointments and group support sessions. You will work closely with fellow professionals both inside and outside the College, although much of your work will be independent so you will need to be confident working alone. You will be a graduate, with a qualification in psychological therapies or a related field. You will be able to demonstrate significant experience of supporting young people with mental health issues and excellent skills in communication and administration. This role is term time only working 16.5 hours per week on Monday Tuesday and Friday.

Our staff are at the heart of what we do at the College, we are proudly anti-racist and our motto is ‘Counting in ones’ which applies to staff as well as the students. We offer special leave for various special occasions, support from the Hub, staff-run groups, staff choir, Monday night football, regular staff forums, an inclusive, supportive and kind culture, no expectations to answer emails out of hours (with an automated message to alert the sender), lunch provided at all lunchtime meetings, ‘5 days of Christmas’ treats, end of term meals and activities and bike and computer loans to name but a few of our initiatives.

More details and information on how to apply are available on our website. If you require further assistance please phone the Personnel Department on 01962 857557 or email jobs@psc.ac.uk quoting the reference number.

We are dedicated to safeguarding the students in our care. To that end, a Disclosure and Barring Service enhanced disclosure will be required in the event of an individual being offered a position within our College. Our staff undertake regular safeguarding and Prevent training and are subject to ongoing safeguarding scrutiny.
