Teacher of Latin
We are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic and knowledgeable Teacher of Latin to join our college on a part-time, fixed-term basis from August.
The details for this post are as follows:
Information About The Post
Peter Symonds is a vibrant sixth form college in Winchester which is proud to be rated by Ofsted as ‘outstanding’ in every respect. We have a large team of committed and talented staff who are at the heart of the success of the College.
Latin is a small but valued part of the thriving Classics department, with 4 students who are studying the subject at A level and coming to the end of their first year following the OCR specification.
Alongside two full time teachers of Classical Civilisation, you will be the only Latin teacher in the team so there is a high degree of autonomy in how you deliver the course materials. Achievement levels for Latin are incredibly high, with a significant percentage of students progressing to read Classics at HE, including Oxbridge, most years.
The successful applicant will have a degree in Classics or Latin, preferably with experience of teaching Latin at A Level, and an abundant enthusiasm for the language and literature.
We welcome applications from both newly qualified and experienced teachers, but a good working knowledge of the texts and the OCR A Level syllabus will be crucial. It is an excellent opportunity for someone to gain experience in a small and supportive team.
Our staff are at the heart of what we do at the College, we are proudly anti-racist and our motto is ‘Counting in ones’ which applies to staff as well as the students. We offer special leave for various special occasions, support from the Hub, staff-run groups, staff choir, Monday night football, regular staff forums, an inclusive, supportive and kind culture, no expectations to answer emails out of hours (with an automated message to alert the sender), lunch provided at all lunchtime meetings, ‘5 days of Christmas’ treats, end of term meals and activities and bike and computer loans to name but a few of our initiatives.
More details and information on how to apply are available on our website. If you require further assistance please phone the Personnel Department on 01962 857557 or email jobs@psc.ac.uk quoting the reference number.
We are dedicated to safeguarding the students in our care. To that end, a Disclosure and Barring Service enhanced disclosure will be required in the event of an individual being offered a position within our College. Our staff undertake regular safeguarding and Prevent training and are subject to ongoing safeguarding scrutiny.
