Information About The Post

Peter Symonds is a vibrant sixth form college in Winchester which has been rated by Ofsted as ‘outstanding’ in every respect. We have a large team of committed and talented staff who are at the heart of the success of the College.

This is a rare and exciting opportunity for an outstanding teacher to join our team of 3 full time and 1 part time members of staff. Teamwork is a characteristic of the department. All teaching resources are shared, work schemes and classroom strategies are discussed and individual student progress is monitored by their teachers.  The 2023-4 cohort comprises 300 Politics students and 14 Politics classes. A level results have been consistently above the UK average and every year, many students progress to read Politics or Politics-related subjects at university, including Oxbridge.

The successful candidate will:

• have a good honours Politics or related degree
• have successful experience of teaching the subject at A-level or be able to demonstrate this potential
• have a PGCE or equivalent qualification or commitment to obtain QTS
• be equally able to teach UK or Global Politics, managing successfully a wide range of approaches in the classroom
• have the enthusiasm to develop interactive course materials for the Pearson Edexcel Politics specification, both for classroom and intranet use
• be skilled in the use of IT in the classroom
• have a rapport with the 16-19 age group (staff also have a tutor group of about 24 students)

Please note that posts advertised to start in September 2024 actually commence with student enrolment at the end of August.  Teaching staff are required to work this week but should you have an existing commitment please make this clear on your application and we will honour it.
