Overview

This course is for adults who have done some study of the language before, have a basic knowledge of Italian and can cope with basic "tourist conversations". To join at this level, you should have a basic knowledge of the pronunciation and the present tense and have studied the language for at least one year e.g. Italian Year 1 or equivalent.

Homework is given on a weekly basis. To benefit most from the course, you will be encouraged to read the materials used during lessons and refer to the course book.

What Will I Study?

You will be using all four language skills (speaking, listening, reading and writing) in every lesson to help you becoming more confident in understanding and producing Italian. You will talk about yourself, your family, hobbies and the weather, past experiences and memories. You will also learn to describe people, cities, clothes etc and how to deal with travel situations – e.g. hotel and restaurant bookings, ordering food and drinks, buying at a market, buying clothes, accessories and furniture and talking about your health and healthy habits.

You will expand your vocabulary and grammar on practical topics to enable you to communicate. Specific topics will include describing people and places, travel, shopping and talking about your health. We will also be revising the pronunciation, the present tense and the agreements between determiners, nouns and adjectives.

Entry Requirements

To join at this level, you should be able to understand simple texts in Italian and read aloud more or less accurately. You should be able to introduce yourself and talk about your day and understand simple sentences/questions, such as come ti chiami? come va? che tempo fa? che ore sono? che cosa ti piace fare? etc. You should be able to write a brief text in the presente i.e. about your daily routine.
